via ontheredcarpet.comThe iconic ivory pleated halted dress Marilyn Monroe wore in the 1955 movie “The Seven Year Itch” has been sold for $4.6 million.
The outfit, which the actress wore in a scene while standing over a subway grate, was part of an auction of Hollywood memorabilia gathered by singer and actress Debbie Reynolds.
Monroe died in 1962 at age 36 and remains one of Hollywood’s most iconic sex symbols. Her subway grate scene in “The Seven Year Itch,” which featured air pushing up the skirt of her dress, has often been parodied in modern pop culture.
Reynolds spent 50 years accumulating and preserving her collection of costumes and items featured in classic films from Hollywood’s golden age in hopes of one day opening a museum. The auction catalog can be downloaded on the website of Profiles in History."
