Bettie Page

Betty911I been thinking about Bettie Page ever since I heard that she was in the hospital with a heart attack at the age of 85.  And while her story is complicated and convoluted.  Her image has become iconic in American pop culture.  For a women who did, what was taboo photography modeling for her time.  She will always be remembered as a young vivacious, and self-confident woman who helped bring in the sexual revolution of the 60's.  I wish her well and a speedy recovery from her health issues.

Ysabel Review

YsabelI have always liked most everything that Guy Gavriel Kay has written. And this book is in the vain of the stories that I like from him. His use of historical references in his works always helps in drawing me into his narrative. Over all I enjoyed this book. While I would of like so more explorations of the protagonist's family, that is just knit-picking on my part, I have recommended it to some of my friends.

Talk Radio Killing Conservates?

I found this article very interesting, when you look at the way that many of the leading Republicans act.  I see them in a whole new light and can see the prisim of "Talk Radio" that they have used from the last decade and a half.
FiveThirtyEight.com: Politics Done Right: Did Talk Radio Kill Conservatism?
Conservatives listen to significantly more talk radio than other market segments; 28 percent of conservative Republicans listen to talk radio regularly, as opposed to 17 percent of the public as a whole. (Unsurprisingly, conservative hosts also dominate the the Arbitron ratings). It may have gone to their heads a little bit; they may have forgotten about radio's idiosyncrasies as a means of communication. The failures of the Bush administration have woken the country up; conservatives now need to find a way to communicate with people who are actually paying attention. ... Read More

Tesas Grand Jury Indicts Cheney & Gonzales??

I sure was not see this one coming. And from Texas, of all places.  I'll be interested to see if this story has legs and gets picked up on the major News Networks.
Think Progress » Vice President Cheney and former Attorney General Gonzales indicted.
A South Texas grand jury has returned multi-count indictments against Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County’s federal detention centers

No Transparency at the FED

NN
I have to say that the fact that the Fed is not letting anyone know who they have given, an estimated 2 trillion in bailout money, really worries me.  I do not trust this current administration, at just about, every turn they have messed up things.  Their arrogance has led them wrong constantly over the last 8 years.  Thank god that the election went the way it did. I think that the economy would of been doomed under McCain.  At least now their is a chance things could work out.

But it will be painful, before it gets better.

Fed Defies Transparency Aim in Refusal to Disclose

The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral...

Ghosts of Carter in 2008

Jimmy Carter
I unsure sure of this election.  On the one hand I do not want an other 4 years of republican leadership (or lack there of), and on the other I'm afraid that anyone placed in the white house now will have a Jimmy Carter like administration.

What I mean is,  that like Carter anyone in the White House will have such a piss poor situation to manage, that anything that is done will anger someone and make it next to impossible to get anything done.  Carter was saddled with a tanking economy from Ford and the end of Vietnam, constraining everything that he did at the time.

Watchmen

I enjoyed found this to be quite different than I expected. Having made a point to not look to closely at reviews others had written, and read it solely on the merit of the recommendations of friends, and was not disappointed.

I was very taken with the themes of Government and those supposedly helping others. The theme of questioning information around you I found pertinent in this election year.

I'll be interested to see how the film, set to be released later this year, will deal with it.

The Future of Power

I'm so excited to see this. I've thought for years that this country should be doing a lot more with solar power. In particular I've always thought that x amount of roof space should have solar power on them. This new project in the Southland really is exciting to me.

Central Command Chief Resigns??

Does this mean that things are going to turn bad and we're going to heat things up with Iran?

Breaking: Central Command Chief Resigns (Updated) | Danger Room from Wired.com

Storm hitting Europe

I saw this and was amazed. This breaking wave is spashing at least 100-200 feet into the air. Makes me shutter as to the type of damage that this type of wave action will do to the coast of England over the next 24-48 hrs.

Oh, my! If this is True?

No wonder Chávez has been so vocal on behalf of the FARC. He killed Reyes with his phone call, if this is to be believed.

Counterterrorism Blog: Fighting FARC: On Strategy and Satellite Phones
A “senior Colombian intelligence source” claimed that Colombia was able to pinpoint FARC chief Raul Reyes’ location because of a phone call made to his satellite phone by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Weirder and Weirder

I have
NN
absolutely no idea what to make of this. I don't find it hard to believe, but at the same time I have been waiting for something to come up that would create a greater sense of crisis before the election in the fall. This is one of those things that I would watch for the "Wag the Dog" Effect from our goverment.
Counterterrorism Blog: FARC Fallout: Assessing Dirty Bomb Claims:
Among the more explosive revelations from the laptops of the late FARC leader Raul Reyes is the allegation that the FARC was trafficking in radioactive materials and according to Colombia’s Vice President was planning to build a “dirty bomb.”

South America at War?

NN
I find it very weird, the rhetoric coming out of South America. First you have a raid in Ecuador on a F.A.R.C. base killing 23. Then you get the President of Ecuador calling it a massacre of civilians. Then you have the opportunist Chavez jumping into the middle of this siding with Ecuador and sending 6000 troops to the border with Columbia. With the type of money floating around the F.A.R.C. from it's drug activities. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't been giving money to both Ecuador and Venezuela so that they could use their countries as staging areas for their operation in Columbia.

One of the men killed, acording to the BBC, was one of the Farc's head negotiators and one of the most senior members of the Farc to be killed was Raul Reyes. According to the Columbian, Reyes has connections with the Velezuelian and Ecuadorian governments.

Rotten Neighbor post #2

I was a little wrong in thinking that they only had a few neighborhoods. As I was relooking at the site and zoomed back out I found that they have bad neighbors all around the world on this site. Still it is spotty, but I'm impressed with just how many people are using this site around the world. Some of it probably is defamatory, but it is real and sometimes amusing as long as I'm not living next to some of these people.

Rotten Neighbor

Rotten Neighbor is an interesting new site that I just came across that lets people rant one way or another about their neighbors. While it is very subjective and is solely gossip, it is amusing to see peoples options on those around them. They currently only show a few cities in this country and London and Paris oddly enough.

Check it out: http://www.rottenneighbor.com

Tornado in the NW

Yesterday, in what I must say is very unusual occurrence in the Northwest, there was, what has been reported, a tornado in Vancouver, WA. While it was an extremely rare happenstance, local news spent 6-8 hrs. Repeating the same drivel over and over again.

For god's sake! No one was hurt and as far as I can tell some homes and businesses had damage and loss of power, but I lived in Denver in the late 80's early 90's and remember a day when five Tornadoes hit Denver and the surrounding area in one day! Before that I lived in Iowa.

They didn't play it up as much as these stations did for just this one very minor and small twister. From the way they played it up you would of thought it was an F5 or something!

Ground Zero Lounge

NN
I've listened to Clyde lewis for a few years and I always love to hear his predictions for the coming year. Ever since his old radio show went, at this point over two years ago, off the air he's been holding an Open mic show at a local Bar (Danta's) in Portland, Or. It is uncanny how good he is at reading the tea leaves for the coming year. This year we'll see. I recommend listening to his podcasted version of his show GroundZero Lounge over at Ideocast.com.

One last thing, I just want to wish you a speedy recovery from you surgery, Clyde. It's just not the same, without your voice booming in the back ground, about the idiots in the world.
